Historic Paramount hotel unveils refresh
Parmount, the landmark hotel in the heart of New York's theater district, unveiled a new concept following a year long, $40 million re-imagination. The refresh was designed to update the hotel for the modern traveler, while being respectful to its 1928 origins. Thomas W. Lamb was the property's original designer. The hotel will be fully completed with the reopening of Billy Rose's Diamond Horseshoe this fall after a 61-year hiatus.
Carried out by design firms Stonehill & Taylor Architects and Meyer Davis Studio, the living room lobby is the centerpiece of the refresh. The design team was inspired by many of Lamb's large, lavishly decorated theaters, many of which featured over-scaled, fantastical elements and dramatic light fixtures. Dark Woods, scuptural chandeliers and richly textured furniture in blues, washed reds and soft neutrals imbue the lobby with a sexy, cozy ambiance, according to the company.
Paramount's 597 guestrooms and suites have been redone with a minimalist, modern aesthetic, complete with LCD flat screen TVs and iPod docking stations. Additionally, ther are two loft-inspired entertainment suites featuring contemporary furnishings and minimalist design elements.
The redesign features the inclusion of a new restaurant and bar, Paramount Bar & Grill. the 2,500 sq. ft. restaurant encompasses an 86 seat dining room and a 20 seat full service bar and lounge. And design elements of Corso, an Italian-style coffe bar, include pops of red, marble counters, vintage expresso machines and an eclectic mix of art.
The renovation also includes the addition of a new retail concept, Free & The Brave, a boutique inspired by modern American design.
