Perhaps the most famous of New York Landmarks is the Statue of Liberty

When considering which New York Landmarks to see, be sure to include the fabulous Statue of Liberty - and stay at the nearby Paramount Hotel – a New York Hotel.
While in New York, there is one woman you absolutely must make time to visit. Our very own Lady Liberty is among the most famous NYC Attractions there is and stands, quite literally, for some profoundly admirable principles, including freedom, hope, and democracy.
The French people generously gifted the Statue of Liberty to the people of the United States as a symbol of the international friendship forged between the two countries during the American Revolution. However, Lady Liberty has come to mean much more than just friendship. Now she is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy.
Our hats are off to sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, who envisioned the statuesque lady, and to Richard Morris Hunt who fashioned the pedestal she is deservedly set upon.
Like many inspired creations of beauty and meaning do, her completion took more time – and money – than anticipated. In fact, the Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886, which was 10 years later than the Centennial celebration for which she was intended, but she was nonetheless worth the wait.
In 1924, the Statue of Liberty was dedicated as a National Monument and went through a restoration for her centennial on July 4, 1986. Between 1886 and 1924, almost 14 million immigrants entered the U.S. through New York and looked to the Statue of Liberty as the sign that they’d arrived safely to the land of their dreams.
While the original intention of the torch was to suggest “enlightenment,” to the millions of newcomers, it meant, “welcome” and has become a symbol of hope.
Coming to New York? Choose a Times Square Hotel like the historic Paramount Hotel, a Times Square New York City Hotel. Located on 46th Street in Times Square since the late 1920s, Paramount Hotel provides Manhattan style and easy access to New York City’s Landmarks, Events & Attractions, including Broadway Theater District, Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building, Central Park, Madison Square Garden, and countless other NYC Attractions.
Thousands of people visit the Statue of Liberty daily. To visit her, you have to purchase a ticket for the ferry to get to Liberty Island and the ticket is also good for full access to Ellis Island.
While there is usually access to go inside the Statue and even to climb the stairs and look out her crown, starting in October 2011, the pedestal will undergo a yearlong renovation, so you’ll have to admire the Statue and the surrounding grounds from outside.
